For the past 7 years, I have had the opportunity to volunteer at a non-profit that has truly shaped me into the person I am today and gives to me the drive to become the best version of myself. The Dream Street Foundation is a foundation that provides camping programs for children with terminal and chronic illnesses. This camp is something that children look forward to all year because it gives them a chance of having a normal childhood for a week.
Volunteering empowers me to become a better version of myself. Though, I am older than the kids I am a counselor for, they empower me and teach me so many wonderful life lessons. Throughout my 7 years of volunteering for Dream Street, I have found that there are small glimmers of magical moments that empower me to take the lessons my campers teach me and put them into action.
My campers who are in the age group of 6 to 9 are fearless and the word impossible is something that is not even in their vocabulary. Their fierce spirits and positive attitudes empower me to never give up, dream big and work hard. Dream Street has driven my career and personal goals since I was a freshman in high school. Each year I return as a volunteer I look forward to giving back to the kids and seeing how that year's camp will help me to grow. My love for this once a year experience has shaped so much of who I am and continues to empower me to reach for my goals and make my dreams come true.
